The end of summer season I

Es war die letzte Oktoberwoche und perfektes Bergwetter angesagt. Einziges Problem: Viele der Berghütten hatten schon zu.

Ich borgte mir das Auto meiner Schwester, schmiss meinen Bergkrempel hinein und fuhr Richtung Steiermark ins Gesäuse. Der Admonter Reichenstein ist einer der prägendsten Berge im Gesäuse. Vom Buchstein aus heuer hab ich heuer ja das eine oder andere Panorama mit dem Doppelzinken geschossen.

It was the last week of October, the weather forecast was perfect. The only problem was that a lot of the mountain huts were already closed.

I stuffed my mountain equipment into my sister´s car and drove to Styria to the Gesäuse area. The Admonter Reichenstein is one of the most eye-catching mountains in this region. It´s double summit is on some of the panoramas I took when I climbed the Buchstein this summer.

Ich bin die Mautstraße bis zum Parkplatz der Mödlinger Hütte rauf gefahren, von dort ist es nicht mehr weit bis zur Hütte selber (ca. eine halbe Stunde). Meinen ursprünglichen Plan von Johnsbach her aufzusteigen habe ich wieder verworfen, als mir die Mödlinger Hütte mitteilte, dass sie nicht mehr geöffnet haben und das ich in der Klinke Hütte, ca. zwei Stunden Fußmarsch, schlafen solle. Mit eim Start in Johnsbach hätte ich die Klinke Hütte wahrscheinlich nicht mehr bei Tageslicht erreicht.

I went up the toll road to the parking place of the Mödlinger Hütte, from where it is not far to the hut itself (about half an hour). My original plan was to go up from Johnsbach, but I dumped that plan when the Mödlinger Hütte told me on the phone, that they are closed and that I should stay at the Klinkehütte about two hiking hours away. Starting from Johnsbach I would probably not made it to the Klinke Hütte during day light.

Wie auch immer, es war ein herrlicher Bergtag. Schlüsselstelle ist die Kupferplatte (UIAA II), die man ein kurzes Stück abklettert, nicht wirklich schwierig aber man muss seine Tritte schon gut setzen. Im leichten Klettergelände zum Gipfel (UIAA I-II) war ich in meinem Element, hat richtig Spaß gemacht. Am Gipfel (2251m) hatte ich, wie erwartet, einen großartigen Rundblick. Man sollte den Abstieg auf keinen Fall unterschätzen, den Fehltritte darf man sich hier nicht erlauben! Die Platte selber ist im Abstieg aber um einiges leichter weil man sie dann ja aufsteigt. Ich würde allen Interessierten einen Helm empfehlen, da manche Abschnitte stark Steinschlag gefährdet sind.

However, it was a great mountain day. The crux of the ascent is a short slab, called Kupferplatte(UIAA II), is a short climb down, not hard, but you have to find your right steps. And I really enjoyed the easy climbing (UIAA I-II) to the summit. At the summit (2251m.a.sl.) I had a great view as I expected. Don´t underestimate the way back, a false step is a no go! The slap is pretty easy on the way back, cause you have to climb it up. I would recommend to wear a helm, cause there is a big chance of falling rock at some parts of the route.
