Einen viel schöneren Bick auf den Großglockner gibt es glaub ich nicht!

Gipfeltour / summit tour: Hohe Dock

Als ich die Hüttenliste meiner Alpenvereinssektion (Gebirgsverein) in der Hand hielt, waren mir die meisten Hütten ein Begriff. Die Schwarzenberghütte hatte ich bis dato noch nie am Radar gehabt, der Standort Glocknergruppe machte mich dann aber neugierig, denn vor zwei Jahren habe ich dort ja mit Christina das Große Wießbachhorn bestiegen.

When I had a look at the list of my mountain association´s huts (Alpenverein-Gebirgsverein), I had at least heard about most of them. Schwarzenberghütte was one of those that had never crossed my mind before, but the location made me curious. Glocknergruppe, that´s the highest massif in Austria and I was there two years ago to climb onto Großes Wießbachhorn with Christina.

Diesmal sollte mein Vater mit auf Gipfeltour und Maria würde uns auch zumindest bis zur Hütte begleiten.

This time my dad wanted join me for the summit and Maria would come with us at least to the hut.

Geplant hatte ich das Ganze mit zwei Nächtigungen, da wochentags, waren wir die einzigen Übernachtunggäste.

I planned the tour with two overnights, as it was during the week we were the only guests there.

Der Wetterbericht ließ zuerst nicht allzu viel Freude aufkommen. Erst einen Tag bevor es losging, war dann für den Gipfeltag auf einmal Schönwetter angesagt.

First the weather forecast was really changeable and rainy, but then one day before the tour we got a time window of one nice day directly on the planned summit day.

Von Ferleiten, direkt vom Parkplatz der Mautstelle der Glockner Hochalpenstraße, gehts zunächst noch flach Richtung Käfertal, dann rechts den Wanderweg Richtung Schwarzenberghütte folgend immer ansteigend und steiler werdend 1100 Höhenmeter bis zur Hütte.

We started from Ferleiten directly at the parking of the toll plaza for Glockner Hochalpenstraße, heading the plain track in direction Käfertal until the branch point where the hiking trail to Schwarzenberg Hütte starts. There it gets steeper and steeper. You have to gain 1100 Meters of height to reach the hut.

Hinter der Hütte sieht man dann schon den markanten langgezogenen Gipfel der Hohen Dock. Am Weg zur Dockscharte waren zwei, drei Schneefelder zu queren, für die man, wenn es kälter ist, eventuell Grödel oder Steigeisen braucht. Bei uns war der Schnee griffig und so blieben die Grödel im Rucksack. Oberhalb der Dockscharte folgt man dann dem teilversicherten Alpinsteig (A,B bzw 1-). Obwohl der Steig in manchem Klettersteigführer zu finden ist, würde ich ihn nicht als solchen bezeichnen, denn am Gipfelgrat ist auch die eine oder andere sehr luftige Passage ohne Stahlseil zu meistern.

Behind the hut you can see the long remarkable Peak of Hohe Dock. On our way to the Dockscharte we had to cross two or three snow fields, I think when it is cold you might need crampons there. This day the snow was grippy and so ours stayed in my backpack. From Dockscharte the way leads up to the partially steelwire secured alpine path (difficulty A,B and I-). Although the trail is listed in some Via Ferrata books, I would not call it a Via Ferrata as there are some really exposed parts at the crest without the safety of a steelwire to hook on.

Von der Schwarzenberghütte auf den Hohe Dock Gipfel sind es rund 1100 Höhenmeter. Der Ausblick am Gipfelgrat sucht seinesgleichen, rechts das Große Wiesbachhorn und links seine Majestät der Großglockner mitsamt seiner Gletscherwelt.

From Schwarzenberghütte to the summit of Hohe Dock there are about 1100 meters in height to gain upwards. The view from the crest is one of the best I´ve ever had, on your right hand side there is the peak of Großes Wießbachhorn and on your left you see the Northern wall of the majesty of Austrian alps: Großglockner surrounded by glaciers.

Die Schwarzenberghütte ist eine gemütliche, kleine und urige Hütte, umgeben von 3000ern. Und um die hochalpine Lage nochmal zu verdeutlichen: Die Tour auf die Hohe Dock ist die einzige lange Tour von der Hütte aus, die man ohne Gletscherausrüstung machen kann.

Schwarzenberghütte is a cosy, small and rustic mountain shelter. It is surrounded by over 3000 meter high peaks and the location of the hut is so high alpine that this tour, onto Hohe Dock, is the only one that you can do without full glacier equipment.

Die Hohe Dock ist mit 3348m Höhe übrigens der erste 3000er, den mein Vater, der diese Tage 65 wird, bestiegen hat. Super Leistung Papa!

The peak of Hohe Dock with its 3348m.a.s.l. is also the first over 3000 Meter high peak that my father has climbed in his life, he celebrates his 65th birthday these days. Dad, you did an awesome job!
